Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes consistently. If a student must miss a class, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance.
Make-up classes may be offered when possible, but are not guaranteed.
In the event that a class needs to be rescheduled, I will communicate this in advance and provide alternative arrangements.
The best way to contact me is via email at Info@SharanyaDance.org. I am often teaching during class hours and may not be able to respond to text messages at that time. I will do my best to respond to all messages in a timely manner.
Regular practice is essential to a student’s progress in Bharatanatyam. Students are expected to practice at home each week.
Practice will be tracked, and students are responsible for coming to class prepared. Students who do not practice at all during a given week will be asked to sit out during class and observe rather than participate.
For younger students, a Dance Practice Log will be updated each week so they know what to practice. Parents are encouraged to support and verify practice at home.
Students should bring all required materials to class.
Students are encouraged to seek opportunities to perform as they progress.
If a student would like to perform a Bharatanatyam piece outside of Sharanya events, please notify me in advance. I am happy to guide the selection of appropriate material and help prepare the student for the performance.
Sharanya choreography, music, and materials are intended for use within the school and should not be shared or distributed without permission.
Tuition is due at the beginning of each session (typically a 3-month quarter). Families will be notified in advance of the fee amount based on the class schedule and level.
Payments are expected on time. Late payments may incur a late fee.
Fees are subject to change annually.
To maintain a focused and respectful learning environment:
No shoes are permitted on the dance floor.
Food, candy, and gum are not allowed during class unless provided by the teacher.
Cell phones must not be used during class time.
Students, parents, and siblings should avoid unnecessary conversation in the studio space.
Parents are requested to drop off and pick up students promptly from the designated entrance for each class location.
For classes held in the home studio (MD location), drop-off and pick-up should take place at the garage entrance. As this is a residential space, all visitors are expected to respect the home and avoid entering other areas of the house.
Parents are generally asked not to remain inside during class, as this can be distracting. If you would like to observe a class, please let me know ahead of time so arrangements can be made.
Students are expected to come to class dressed appropriately for Bharatanatyam.
Acceptable attire includes:
Salwar Kameez
Kurta Pajama
Dance Sari
Leggings with a Long Kurta Top
The following are not permitted:
T-shirt and Tank Tops
Jeans
Shorts
Short skirts
Tight or restrictive clothing
All students must have their hair neatly tied back. Students are required to wear a dupatta, tied securely around the waist or across the torso.
Students who are not dressed appropriately may be asked to sit out during class.
Students are expected to maintain a respectful and supportive environment.
Younger students should address older peers respectfully (e.g., Didi, Bhaiya, Akka, Annan). Students may refer to me as Didi or Aunty, and parents are welcome to use my first name.
